Course Information.
On a par with the best in Europe in terms of layout, environmental
features and design, this new course will soon challenge the likes of
San Lorenzo and Oitavos as the best course in Portugal.
As soon as noted British architects Michael King and Peter Townsend
saw this unique location they knew that they had been given a piece
of land which could be transformed into two of the best courses in Europe.
And full advantage has indeed been taken of the natural valleys and
undulations of the terrain. Nearly all the centuries-old cork trees
were retained and many more have been transplanted on these attractive
courses, which have matured well in the short period they have been
open for play.
"Dog-legs play a major part of the design and make the course
a tactical joy to play. "
Both the Ribagolfe I and II courses provide a solid test for players
of all levels of ability – the sign of any great golf course.
The Ribagolfe II course uses this undulation and elevation to create
some interesting shots to the well-guarded greens. Dog-legs play a major
part of the design and make the course a tactical joy to play.
The longer Ribagolfe I course is a true championship layout with several
holes offering a challenge that many will struggle to meet. With two
great courses to choose from, it is always difficult to choose a preference,
so our advice is to make a day of it and play the slightly shorter Ribagolfe
II in the morning, warming you up nicely for the 7,900-yard Ribagolfe
I in the afternoon. Yes, you will need a buggy. Not surprisingly, Ribagolfe
is poised to host national and International tournaments.
"Ribagolfe is on God-given land and is one of the finest 36-hole resorts
I have ever played." Brian Eustace, 4golf.com
