Course Information.
A nine-hole course built on undulating terrain, where the natural vegetation
blends perfectly with artificial lakes and bunkers.
With just nine holes, the Quinta do Gramacho course has the layout
of a complete course thanks to its double tees and greens. The beautiful
surrounding vegetation blends perfectly with the various lakes that
are frequently brought into play and the undulating fairways winding
between groves of almonds, olives and fig-trees. Designed by the American
architect Ronald Fream, Quinta do Gramacho is adjacent to the Vale da
Pinta course (both of them belong to the Carvoeiro Club, close to the
fishing village of Carvoeiro).
"There are not many courses the European Tour visit that can
match the quality of Gramacho’s greens"
Its most notable holes are number 2, a par 5 that requires an accurate
drive to the right of the fairway in order to avoid two pine-trees;
number 6, a par 3, where the tee-shot is played over water; number 7,
where the green is protected by two bunkers that demand great respect;
and number 8, which requires great accuracy as there is a lake to the
left and a difficult rough to the right. The David Leadbetter Academy,
run by one of the world's most famous golf coaches, is also based at
the course.
‘I live close to Augusta National Golf Course and play there
quite regularly. I’ll warn our superintendent! Your greens at
Gramacho are as good as Augusta!’ Jack Warner, visiting golfer
‘I have read the comments of Mr. Warner re Augusta and he’s
right. There are not many courses the European Tour visit that can match
the quality of Gramacho’s greens’. Andy McFee, Senior Tour
Director, PGA European Tour.
