Course Information.
The Praia D'El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort is home to one of the
premier Lisbon Portugal golf courses, located just one hour north of
the capital city, along the peaceful sandy beaches of the west coast.
Designed by the world-renowned American architect Cabell B. Robinson,
the Praia D'El Rey Championship Golf Course is rich in variety, providing
an excellent test for both the handicapped golfer as well as the advanced
player.
Close to the medieval town of Obidos and the Berlengas islands nature
reserve, this course brings players into close contact with nature and
has all the ingredients needed for a pleasurable game of golf.
Praia d'el Rey has distinctive parkland features for the first nine
holes and then turns into a genuine links course over the next nine.
It runs mainly along a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, providing
beautiful views over the sea, dunes, lakes and the pine forest that
dominates the landscape.

The course was voted the third best in Portugal in the biennial poll
organised by the European Golf magazine and was considered the seventeenth
best course in Europe by the Golf World magazine.
Golfers not only enjoy the pleasant surroundings but are confronted
with many challenging playing situations.
The whole course, however, provides plenty of variety, particularly
the view afforded of the Berlengas islands from hole number 2, the spectacular
scenery at hole 11, the view over the Atlantic Ocean all along the fairway
of hole 12, the changing wind direction at hole 14 and the huge 570
metres of hole 17.
For three years, the course hosted the European Cup, popularly known
as the War of the Sexes, since it pitted a team from the European Ladies
Tour against a team from the Senior European Tour.
