Course Information.
This is a course of great scenic beauty, offering a perfect blend of
the variety between links and inland golf. The scenery can be truely
appreciated from the comfort of the club's restaurant with its breathtaking
views over Lagos bay. The clubhouse affords visitors a fantastic panoramic
view over a 25-km stretch of Atlantic coastline.
Located close to the historic city of Lagos, Palmares offers a wonderful
blend of beach and mountain scenery. The course's prestigious reputation
derives from the same perfect blend of these two types of landscape
and its excellent upkeep. After starting with a difficult par-4 dogleg,
played off a fairly high tee, golfers soon find themselves on the links
part of the course, which runs behind Meia-Praia, a vast expanse of
white sand and high dunes.
"Simply admire the glorious view across the bay."
At hole number 6, the course turns back inland towards the clubhouse.
After this, there is a completely different challenge, with the rest
of the holes following undulating valleys bordered by pine-trees and
affording beautiful views over Lagos bay and the mountains of Serra
de Monchique. The Torneio das Amendoeiras em Flor, the oldest amateur
tournament in the Algarve, has been played here since 1977.
Palmares is one of the gems of European golf. It is not a lavish club,
but one glorious in its unpretentiousness. There are many who would
happily sit high up on the clubhouse veranda and simply admire the glorious
view across the bay without venturing onto the golf course at all”.
