The Monte Rei is a prestigious Jack Nicklaus Signature Course - meaning the man himself has actually had a say in the design of the course rather than just putting his name to it.
Set in the picturesque foothills of the Eastern Algarve, the course has some impressive views of the Serra do Caldeirao mountains to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the south

The first of 2 Jack Nicklaus courses, the North only opened for play in June 2007. The course is a par 72 measuring 6567 metres from the championship tees and 11 of the holes feature water hazards. The configuration of the course is eight par 4's, five par 3's and five par 5's and has a distinctive layout

To compliment to excellent layout and pristine fairways the real fun starts on the greens. Quite possibly they will be some of the best you will ever play on; quick but not unfairly so.

The bunker condition is a distinct trait of the design. The inward halves of the bunkers are manicured while the rough-side halves have the sort of wispy eyebrows found at County Down. The bunker faces have a unique feature in that they are specially designed to stop the ball plugging and instead releasing it back down in the sand.

You would be forgiven for thinking that this course is not cheap, and it isn't. What is certain though is that it is already one of, if not the finest course in the Algarve and set to compare itself to the best in Europe. Couple that with the VIP service you receive from the moment you enter the complex. Free range balls, complementary shoe and club cleaning, water and towels waiting in the included buggy. And then there's the top notch grill bar serving food of excellent quality on the terrace overlooking the course, and all at reasonable prices.
