Course Information.
During the last decade, Mijas Golf has become one of the most popular
golf complexes in Europe, known by the outstanding condition of their
courses and the friendly atmosphere and excellent service provided to
its clients.
The professional approach by the golf director D Filipe Perez Cortes
ensures a high percentage of the green fee revenue is invested back
into the courses and service; and it shows. The courses not only resemble
American design but can also match the service and condition of the
best USA course.
At 6,367 metres, Los Lagos is the longer of the two Mijas Course. Designed
by Robert Trent Jones Senior the course is flat, with wide fairways,
a few trees, nine lakes from which the course gets its name and large
greens. It could be said that the American designer wanted to present
a course especially for amateurs however it is suitable for players
of all standards but you will need to concentrate to avoid the obstacles. Both
courses, designed by Robert Trent Jones pay homage to his philosophy
“difficult Par, easy Bogey” –, they have very little rough, plenty of
water and are both relatively flat.
Jones championed the concept of "Heroic Golf," meaning that if a player
wanted to attempt a difficult shot, they be faced with a risk/reward.
That's where Jones became the first architect to regularly employ water
as the ultimate hazard. All told, Jones designed or redesigned over
500 courses in 40 states and 35 countries.
"The course is flat, with wide fairways, a few trees, nine lakes
from which the course gets its name."
“Los Lagos” was finished in 1976 & “Los Olivos” was finished in 1984,
both courses are regardes as two of his most wonderful creations in
the “Costa del Sol”
The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse), and when sat
beside it, you feel the continual buzz on the terraces of the Restaurant,
where the variety of the clientele congregate; Mijas Golf has managed
to sucessfully accommodate the local residents with visitors from all
over the world.
