Course Information.
Originally designed by Pepe Gancedo and redesigned in 2005 by Manuel
Pinero, Golf del Sur is now the only golf course in the Canary Islands
with 3 championship course combinations. The courses stand out feature
is the black sand in the bunkers complimented by the large greens, wide
fairways and the two lakes that a prominent on the 3rd, 4th and 5th
holes of the links course.
Ever since its inaugural tournament for professionals in 1987, the
27 holes of Golf del Sur have provided the backdrop for various top
international tournaments. In 1989 they bore witness to Jose Maria Olazabal´s
victory in the Open de Tenerife, a feat he repeated in 1992. The following
year they watched as David Gilford won the event, as did Mark James
in 94. In 1995, Golf del Sur hosted the Shell Wonderful World of Golf
tournament and its head-to-head battle between Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson.
Golf del Sur has also been the setting for two golf driving distance
records, both of which were set by Britain’s Karl Woodward. First he
set a new record of 398 yards and then, a few months later, he managed
to break the legendary 400-yard barrier with a huge stroke that sent
the ball flying 408 yards. In 2002, Golf del Sur hosted the first Tenerife
Ladies Open a new international tournament on the LPGA European Evian
Tour and in its founding year returned a popular Spanish win for Raquel
Carriedo.

The wide fairways of the course are surrounded by a wide variety of
canarian flora and form an 800,000 square meter oasis next to the Atlantic
Ocean. Palm trees and giant cactus get special attention to ensure the
conservation of the indigenous flora and fauna.
Golf del Sur is rightly proud of its effort to retain the natural balance
and blending the twenty-seven holes into the scenery.
Maintaining the course as an integral part of the local biosphere
has received international recognition with the award of ISO 14001 status.

3rd hole on the North course. A water hazard lies in wait to the right
of the wide fairway, to the left is a gaping bunker of black sand and
behind is an impressive ravine with an ochre coloured rock face. while.
Also notable is the 193-meter, par 3 2nd on the South course that features
a large green completely surrounded by an immense bunker of black sand.

court, minigolf, bar & restaurant, buggy bar, putting and chipping green,
pro shop and restrooms.
