Course Information.
The Almerimar course is the oldest golf course in Almeria having been
designed in 1976 by Rob Kirby and legend Gary Player. Recently it has
been given a complete face lift and is now back to being one of the
finest courses in the area after deteriorating over recent years. The
stamp of Player and Kirby is obvious on the vast majority of the original
18 holes with some stunning layouts and challenging holes.
Although the first 6 holes provide a challenge for all calibre of golfer the course really kicks into gear when crossing under the road. The 7th hole is a 550 yard par 5. Your tee shot requires a carry over a tempting lake of over 200 yards if playing the 'tiger' line. There is a bail out area to the right but a shot here needs to be precise as this is guarded heavily by some dense rough and heavy woodland. If you can nail this tee shot the feel good factor will remain with you for the rest of the round. Even after successfully negotiating such a tricky tee shot you will still probably be left with a 3 wood and 7/8 iron to an uphill green. Par here is an excellent achievement.

The 10th is another notable hole after extensive works have turned it into one of the best thought out on the course. With the fairway playing from left to right your drive will take you up to the crest of the hill with the green downhill on a dog-leg left. Be careful if taking the big dog off the tee as the stream which meanders across the fairway and down to a large lake can come into play if you catch it right.
The 14th, a par 3 is now a complete island green as is one of the most pleasing to the eye as you'll find. Catch this tee shot right and you should be looking at a straight forward par. Miss hit it though and you're looking at a potential round breaker! Off the 17th you have no idea of the challenge up ahead. A long and well positioned drive will give the big hitters a chance of hitting the par 5 in 2. In all cases the second shot is key as if laying up you will need to keep to a tight fairway on the left to avoid running into the large lake that circulates the front of the green. If laying up an 8 iron should probably suffice leaving a pitching wedge over the lake to a large green. Two putts and thats your par - if only it was that easy eh???
The 18th Green is the signature of the course and is overlooked by the front of the Almerimar Hotel. Although distance should not be a problem the vast lake travelling from tee to surrounding green area is obviously on any golfer's mind when stepping up here. With a prevailing wind often blowing straight into your face off the tee a longer iron or even wood may be required to bridge the gap, holding the green on a shot like this deserves sincere congratulations. Aiming straight at the pin also brings into play the bunker placed directly in front of the green. If your playing a friendly competition with your mates this could be the hole that breaks a few nerves and hearts in the process.
