Gran Canaria Golf Holidays

Whenever we have a Golf Holiday Gran Canaria we know we’re in for a treat. The island is well known for its year round sunshine and magnificent beaches, but we love its rich historical heritage, its wealth of culture and its amazing food just as much.

We’ve been told that the wonderful weather is due to the influence of the trade winds and the gentle sea currents - but all we know is that the island enjoys one of the best climates in the world. As a result it has been a very popular holiday destination for some time.

In recent years Gran Canaria has also emerged as an up and coming golf holiday destination. The number of courses on the island has grown steadily and there are now five great places to play. However, golf is certainly no newcomer to Gran Canaria. There’s been a strong golfing tradition here since 1891 when
the Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas was founded. The first members of the club were from the English Colony on Gran Canaria and they had a strong influence on the birth of the island’s tourism industry.

We find the green fees on the island represent very good value. In the low season, from May to September, they can be as little as 50 euros - and that’s more than reasonable when you consider the quality of the courses and the facilities available.

But it’s impossible to talk about Gran Canaria without eulogising over the beaches. They’re the island’s most notable natural resource and they cover a quarter of the coastline. Our favourite is Maspalomas, which on its own has over 250 hectares of sand and dunes.

From Maspalomas we like to walk (or get a taxi) into the neighbouring resort of Playa del Ingles, which is the liveliest resort on the island and a great place for party animals!
